What does your involvement in the sport mean to you? What made you fall in love with it?

I fell in love with climbing when I realized it combined all the things I love into one activity. It helps build your fitness level, challenges your mental by overcoming fears and analyzing outcomes, and it can bring you to some of the most beautiful scenic views the world has to offer. Being involved in this sport gave me all these benefits and then some. It helped me regain stability in my life and overcome my battle with depression and anxiety. Giving me goals to meet and challenges to beat.

Out of all the product sponsorship out there, why is primo the one for you?

I’m pretty stuck in my ways when it comes to the climbing products I use. Primo was the first chalk company to make me switch in over 3 years. All it took was one session and I could see a big difference in my performance and the feel of my skin afterwards. They’re very informative on their products and user friendly. Not to mention supportive and motivating to there athletes!

What is one surprising fact about yourself that we wouldn’t expect to hear?

Looking at me with my dreads and bum-ish style, you’d never know I’m a math wiz!  I’ve always loved math in school and I’m currently working towards my associates in accounting while I travel the country and climb.

Adventuring is a lifestyle, not an activity or sport. You can adventure through a work day at the office with the same gusto as at the crag, it just takes a little more effort. Backcountry crags and canyons with obscure, obscene approaches are my favorite. I am stoked to have found a lovely lady to hit the road with for the rest of my life. I believe settling is being content, not living in the suburbs with a picket fence and I intend to find that contentedness.

Hard-hitting weekend warrior who works at a hospital by day, but spends his nights and weekends slaying boulders, hurling himself off mountains and getting outdoors as much as possible. When I climb, I swear by Primo chalk. With how frequently I’m at the climbing gym, or on rock – it’s important to get stuff that helps take me to that next level as well as keeps my hands from being destroyed. That’s how I’ve managed to get so many of my fellow climbers on the Primo train!

Born in May 14th 1987 and raised in Fairfield County Connecticut—not exactly a mecca for rock climbing—I spent a lot of time outdoors, and some time as a teenager mountaineering and honing rope skills in the mountains that would later serve my rock climbing. I started traditional mountaineering when I was 11 years old, and it wasn’t until I went to college in Boston that I began pushing my limits in the sport. I spent a lot of time in Vermont and New Hampshire in the White Mountains and the Presidential Range. Now I’m a USAC Routesetter and USAC Coach based in Los Angeles, LA.

What does your involvement in your sport mean to you? What made you fall in love with it?

I love being involved in just about anything in the mountains. To me it means I am living the life that others only dream about, or see in the movies. I am pushing the limits of myself and the people I climb with. I also teach people how to just enjoy the sport. It doesn’t matter if you are climbing a slabby 5.7 or a bad-ass overhanging 5.12. Its all about why you do it, and i do it because my mind just goes into this zone when I’m climbing, and nothing else matters at that moment but the climb in front of me.
The Thrill is definitely what made me fall in love with the sport. I always like a thrill and a challenge. It doesn’t matter if it is a terrifying climb, or going up on a peak in -40 temps with 60 mph winds. I want take the hardest route, prove I can be better than I already am.

Out of all the product sponsorship’s out there, why is Primo the one for you?

For me it was a product that I was searching for. Primo chalk has proved to excel my skills and performance, and by doing this has allowed me to start focusing on other areas of climbing for improvement. The company is great, and they back me up just as much as I will back their products. If I get a chance to stay with Primo Chalk next year, they would be my first choice.

What is a surprising fact about yourself that we wouldn’t expect to hear?

I hate ladders, and I hate being on roofs. Lol. If its not climbing, or hiking peaks, I hate being up high. Its contradicting , but when I am on a wall high doesn’t matter, but when I am on a ladder, I hate it.

What else should we know about you?

I had a major injury that slowed my climbing adventure to a halt for a year. I fell 40 feet climbing and shattered my wrist. I went into surgery and got a plate and 9 screws, that are now permanent. I began Climbing again as soon as I could. This year I have had major improvements, climbing multi-pitch, solo routes, and on a scale of 5.10-5.11 at Rumney, New Hampshire.

What does your involvement in your sport mean to you? What made you fall in love with it?

Since the age of twelve, I have been practically living at the climbing gym. In the summers, I spend forty hours at the climbing gym training for everything– anything. In reality, climbing is so much more than, well, climbing. The sport grips every part of your life. When I climb, my mind is so focused on the moves ahead, the sequence, the goal; all my problems stay on the ground. Climbing puts me in my place, a problem would seem astronomical, but compared to the mountains, it is nothing. Even when I suffered a really bad foot injury and learned that the pain in my foot that had been present for four years was a broken bone, climbing was still there. That was my most difficult training plan I had ever had: not being able to climb after surgery. But I became a better climber for it.

Out of all the product sponsorships out there, why is Primo the one for you?

When I tell my training partners or kids I train about how freaking amazing Primo is, they all think I am just saying it because I am so fortunate to be an athlete for this company and I have to say nice stuff, but in reality, it actually just is the best chalk on earth. No joke. I used to not put much thought into my chalk, I would get whatever I could get for cheap. But through research, I learned that calluses can create cracks in my skin (obviously) where bacteria can breed and cause gnarly infections. Sorry to gross you out but it was a necessary PSA. Now, I am a class A tomboy, but even I knew that their had to be a better and safer way to use chalk. Climbing is already dangerous enough, I really don’t want to be benched because of an infection. So that is when I discovered Primo. The chemical makeup of their chalk helps hydrate my skin after a long climb which, one: feels great, and two: puts me at ease. It also just has really amazing grip and texture. You will just have to try it to really find out how amazing it is.

What is a surprising fact about yourself that we wouldn’t expect to hear?

I am a person with many passions. Along with climbing, I am very passionate about politics and I play the saxophone. My school work and grades are another thing that I like to keep up. You can often find me working on homework between training sessions at the gym. All of my interest work together to make me the best person I can be.

What does your involvement in your sport mean to you? Why did you fall in love with it?

Climbing is weird.  It’s problem solving with an artistic stroke.  It’s a game in which you can neither win nor lose.  Your only competitor you must face is maintaining the equilibrium of both mind and body.  Climbing to me is such a personal experience and it feels so natural to move with the features of the rock.  The complexity yet simplicity of climbing is what made me fall in love.  There are so many things to think about before a climb, but the moment I get on the rock is when reality begins to dissipate.  All that is on my mind is the movement along with the gradual flow my body absorbs as I continue to climb.  In simpler terms; climbing is satisfying.  Yet as a climber I am never truly satisfied.  There is always another piece of rock waiting to be climbed.

Out of all the product sponsorships out there, why is Primo the one for you?

I really like Primo Chalk.  Not only the chalk itself, but the people behind it.  Primo truly is primo.  It’s a top quality product made by people who love what you love.  The Primo brand is driven by passion and excellence and that is why I back them.  I am passionate about my climbing and they understand that by making astounding chalk to help me push my limits.

What is a surprising fact about yourself that we wouldn’t expect to hear?

I suppose a surprising fact about me is that I love to do voices and impressions.  Whether it be Christopher Walken or Bobby Hill;  I really enjoy embodying a character with my voice.
