What does your involvement in your sport mean to you? What made you fall in love with it?
I started powerlifting when I was coming off a crash diet and knew that I was going to have to gain some weight while I worked on improving my relationship with food. Being able to increase the weight on the bar week by week gave me something to focus on other than the scale, and ultimately it taught me to love my body for what it could do instead of focusing only on what it looks like. I love being strong, and I love that it's something people don't usually expect from me when they meet me outside of the gym.
Out of all the product sponsorships out there, why is Primo the one for you?
I'm so grateful to be a Primo athlete because it's a product I actually use and believe in. I would never want to promote a product I didn't use, but ever since the first time I used Primo chalk it's been the only chalk I use in the gym. The anti-bacterial quality of the chalk is so important to me because I'm in a public gym, and the last thing I need when I'm training for a meet is to catch whatever sickness is going around! I also love the company and how they stand behind their product. They make the best chalk and they know it.
What is a surprising fact about yourself that we wouldn't expect to hear?
A surprising fact about me that you might not guess is that I went to a Fine Arts school for high school and majored in Theatre. I thought for a long time that I wanted to be an actress. Also, my very first childhood crush was Arnold Schwarzenegger!
Anything else we should know about you?
My best lift is the deadlift and I held the BC Provincial Deadlift record for 72kg junior females for about 3 years until it was broken after I had graduated to being an open lifter. My best gym lifts are a 315 lb Squat, 155 lb Bench Press and 430 lb Deadlift. My next meet will be in July, 2017.
